| About this Artwork: .The established way to make Celtic knot quilts is to weave strips of fabric. I designed my own method of pieced blocks. I created the tree knot pattern, then created templates based on that design. This tree is the first in a series of knots that I've designed for wall and bed quilts. The fabrics are cotton batiks and prints. The background is stipple quilted. The tree is densely quilted in the fabric vines. The peacock's body is raw silk. The rest of the peacock is made of cashmere and rayon yarns, thousands of seed beads in silver, black and tan, and beads of glazed ceramic, hex-cut glass, freshwater pearl, glass, and sodalite. The apples include beads of etched silver, coral, and cloissonne. Finished with a hanging sleeve for a decorative rod. This piece was featured in a juried exhibition at the New England Quilt Museum, Lowell MA, 2010 |
