| About this Artwork: DUMBO is the acronym for an area of Brooklyn, NY, Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. I snapped a classic pic up Washington St. late one afternoon when the shadows at street level were darkening while the bridge still languished in the waning light, creating a cool chiaroscuro effect appropriate to the artsy neighborhood. I first played around with it in digital collage, using some modernist breakups and patchwork styles reminiscent of Robert Delaunay. The final piece is a collage of digital portions printed onto cotton fabric then embroidered, acrylic paint on canvas, and raw-edge fabric applique. Bordered in cotton fabrics, gallery wrapped on a stretched canvas frame, wired for hanging. |
