| About this Artwork: Looking beyond fabric to other types of environmentally friendly fibers and materials, I discovered some fabulous woven grass and unbleached pulp papers that begged to be used in mosaic collage work. A greensward is an area which is primarily covered in grass. The term is also an apt description of a grassland (the differentiation between the two terms often refers to man-made grasslands as greenswards). In shades of cream, blue, tan, and sage, I hand-cut over 885 individual pieces for the mosaic. I drafted the design based on the labyrinth pattern found in Chartres Cathedral, which is about 40 ft. diameter, crafted of blue and white stone. The mosaic is mounted on a stretched canvas frame, using an eco-friendly acid-free adhesive. The frame is a spectacular custom olive wood frame. Wired for hanging. |
