| About this Artwork: .This charming 3-d miniature is my personal favorite. I first created a miniature Mariner's Compass quilt block - there are 84 tiny pieces in the fabric base, with the center smaller than a penny. I then sculpted the person from reclaimed aluminum wire, standing 3 inches tall (7.6 cm) from head to toe. The birds are origami peace cranes, meticulously folded (using tweezers and a pin!) from tissue paper, then multi-coated with enamel to ensure they hold their form with long-term durability. The base is wrapped onto a stretched canvas frame. The person is firmly adhered with acid-free adhesive (that won't damage the fabric) and sewn in place through the canvas. If you stomp next to the table or pedestal, he and the birds wiggle like they're in a lively struggle. |
