| . About this Artwork: . Luna moths are one of nature's most spectacular and elusive treats. I've only been lucky enough to see one a few times in my life, and was fortunate to have my camera nearby when this one rested on a black walnut tree in the yard one morning just as the sun angled over the hillside. The moth is created from delicately texture cotton prints and batiks, with stitchwork in a variety of silvery-green embroidery threads. The antennae are 3-dimensional bits of twisted cashmere yarns stitched into place. The tree is created from cotton batik and print fabrics, appliqued with variegated color cotton threads in two color schemes. The border is black and brown cotton batik continued from the tree trunk, gallery wrapped around a stretched canvas frame, wired for hanging. |
