| About this Artwork:. Marshland is a fabric and fiber art quilt, designed in a free-form abstract style. The most interesting thing about marshes is the many different ecosystems in their environs. They often border woodlands, incorporate shallow areas of grasses and skunk cabbage, and have murky muddy zones that morph into open water where the sky seems to get bigger with the acreage. This piece is created with cotton batik, print and hand-dyed fabrics using piecing and applique methods, with decorative free-motion top-stiching using cotton variegated color threads. I embellished the fabric base with velour and rayon fibers, acrylic painting, and beads of acrylic and vintage-style brass. The cotton fern print border uses a traditional quilt binding style. A 3-inch hanging sleeve is sewn in, for hanging with a decorative rod. |
