| About this Artwork: I've always been fascinated by good graffiti art. I especially love the walls in the environs of the train station in Zurich, Switzerland. Being a good girl, I never developed this skill. When I decided to create graffiti fabric art, I couldn't decide what to write. I thought about a guy who's been a vandal for 30 years, who one night draws a blank. The word Quotidian came to mind. I created the word from strip-pieced cotton prints, satin-stitch appliqued onto a contrasting black and white base. I used some decorative stitches to enhance my wall with the extra words of Toil, Grind, Drudge and Help! I wonder if Banksy ever gets bored with his nightly grind... The border is a cotton brick print, in which I free-motion stitched in the mortar lines. It is gallery wrapped on a stretched canvas frame, wired for hanging. |
