| About this Artwork: This large framed 3d artwork captures the focal point of the racer in freeze frame, as the blur of energy transfers the sense of motion to the abstracted background. The racer is raw silk with heavy woven interfacing, elevated from the surface with wood pegs. I used a fabulous woven silk ranging from olive to pale lime, cutting small strips like brush strokes to give it an impressionistic feel, then free-motion top-stitching to give it texture and movement. The road is rough sand textured gesso and acrylic paint on canvas. The racer is as one with her bicycle, which is composed of reclaimed bicycle parts including a derailleur, pedal, tireclip, rubber tires re-fashioned mosaic-style, a reclaimed metal basket, and wire screening, adhered with eco-friendly adhesive and structural wire reinforcement for the heavier derailleur and pedal. Framed in a concave curved black wood frame with distressed copper accents. |
